.MOBI Domain Name Registrations
More and more people use mobile devices to access web content, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is steadily growing. To fulfill this demand, the body that handles the universal top-level domains, ICANN, launched the .MOBI domain name extension in 2005. The first registrations were enabled in September 2006, and the concept behind this extension is that all websites that use it have to comply with certain regulations. In other words, all .MOBI websites should be created to be accessed properly by mobile devices in accordance with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” established by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in collaboration with the dot MOBI Registry organization. These have to do with how a website is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.
The regulations have induced some concerns in view of the fact that the universal domain extension is the only one that specifies what devices need to be able to access a website and the way in which this has to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a site should be designed in such a way as to be accessed by most Internet browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.
Given that the dot MOBI Registry organization does not sell domains directly, you can acquire a dot MOBI domain with any 3rd-party firm, such as ours. If you have an already active domain, you can also transfer it to our firm if you get its EPP transfer authorization code from your present registrar. If you do that, you’ll be able to administer your domain(s) and hosting account from one place – our Hepsia Control Panel.
