SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol that's used to connect to a web server and conduct different tasks via a command line. The protocol is employed by many experienced users, as the data transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access can be used for a variety of things based on the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for instance, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the web server allows for it. If you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for virtually anything - you can install software or restart certain services such as the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed typically with UNIX-like Operating Systems, but there are clients that allow you to use the protocol if your laptop or computer is using a different Operating System too. The connection is created on TCP port 22 by default and the remote server always listens for incoming connections on that port although a number of service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account with us and you'd like to handle your content remotely via SSH, you can easily receive SSH access to the account using your Hepsia Control Panel. If your package deal does not offer this feature as standard, you may add it with several clicks from the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the CP, you will see the host, the port number and the username you should use when you connect to the account. You may also select what password you want to use, considering that it does not have to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared many Help articles in which you could find all the commands that you'll be able to use with a shared hosting plan, plus examples of how they are used. In addition, if SSH access is enabled for your account, you'll be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection via a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll be able to obtain SSH access to it with just a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, offered with all accounts. If your package does not support this function by default, you'll be able to include it with ease using the Upgrades menu. As soon as you go to the SSH section, you'll find the information which you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter could be updated anytime, if needed. These login credentials are also required if you want to upload files using a secure connection and you wish to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we provide you with. A detailed list of the commands that you can perform will provide you with a better idea of what tasks you may perform within your account and each one is accompanied by a number of instances of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You shall be able to use SSH to control your content no matter which VPS hosting plans you select when you sign up, since all our packages provide this feature by default. You won't have to add or allow anything by hand - immediately after your server is prepared and you get the Welcome e-mail with the login info, you may connect and start working on your Internet sites or any software which you want to install and run on the hosting server. You shall have root-level access to the VPS and due to the fact that the account shall be separated from all of the other accounts within the physical hosting server, you'll be able to do anything you need without any restrictions. You'll be able to set up any application which you need and that shall work on a Linux-based web server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and handle your files and databases efficiently.
