An Operating System is the basic software which controls a computer. It controls the way the hardware behaves, the communication with peripherals including a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between apps, plus the prioritization of apps in case several run at once. Each program which is installed on a PC operates by sending requests to the OS for various services via an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS can be performed using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting world, the Operating System is what commands a web hosting server as well as all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also any other application for example a VOIP or a game server. If there are virtual machines created, they work with a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

If you choose to buy one of our VPS server plans, you'll be able to opt for one of the three Linux distributions which we supply for the OS of the servers - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They are among the most popular and most stable server OSs out there and we offer them so that you have a choice for the software environment of your machine if you want to install some app with particular requirements in terms of the packages that should be present on the hosting server. We also offer three web hosting Control Panels and which one of them you'll be able to use will depend on the OS that you have chosen. We leave the option to change the server Operating System open, so if you want to use an application that requires an OS different from the one that's already present, we can always reinstall the VPS. We can also keep the OS up-to-date on a weekly basis by installing all of the security updates that may be available.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

The dedicated server solutions that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to choose from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license fees, but they’re also known as the most stable and risk-free OSs. We provide three different ones since each of them is backed by a different community. The packages which you can add on your web server are different and this may matter in case you want to install some piece of software with particular requirements for the hosting environment. In this light, the hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the OS that you will select. You may choose any of the three Operating Systems throughout the order procedure, but if necessary, we can always install the server once again with a different one upon your request. As an optional service that you can add to the package any time, we can update the OS on a regular basis so as to keep it as risk-free as possible.
